One in three employees in US plan to look for new job in 2013

A new survey conducted for job search website Glassdoor.com by Harris Interactive has revealed that more than one in three employees in the U.S. – 34 percent – plan to look for a new job in 2013.

The latest quarterly Glassdoor® Employment Confidence Survey found nearly one in five employees – 18 percent – said they would be looking for a new job in the next three months while 16 percent would be looking in the next four to 12 months.

The number of job seekers could be even greater since 33 percent of employees answered “Don’t know/not sure” when asked if they would be seeking a new job in the coming year.

The survey monitors four key indicators of employee confidence: job security, company outlook, salary expectations, and re-hire probability.

This survey also includes insights into when employees will consider looking for a new job within the next 12 months, assuming the economy stays the same or improves.

More highlights of the survey, which uses feedback from 2,249 U.S. adults with 1,470 of them employed or unemployed but looking for work, include:

  • 51 percent of employees will consider looking for a new job if the state of the economy stays the same or improves.
  • 73 percent of employees and job seekers say that salary and compensation is the most important factor that influences their decision on whether or not to accept a job offer.
  • Women considered salary more influential when evaluating a job offer when compared to men, 77 percent to 69 percent.
  • 64 percent of employees 45 years old and older considered location and commute the more influential factors when evaluating a job offer
