In the late 90s Apple was a company on the verge of bankruptcy. After making the radical decision to rehire Steve Jobs, they went to work on the two things business expert Peter Drucker says are key for any company, innovation and marketing.
Today Apple is the most successful company in the world and perhaps all of history. What did Steve Jobs do to turn things around?
Anthony Robins provides the answer in a simple conversation with a friend who said his grandmother wanted to buy a computer. When asked what kind of computer she wanted to buy, she replied, 'A red one!'
Through a simple shift in thinking, Jobs innovation to come out with iMacs in various colors of the rainbow skyrocketed sales at Apple. While for years computers were gray or white, Jobs brought fun and a sense of style to the desktop and changed the face of the entire industry. It is amazing how much a single shift can influence everything, whether in business, relationships or life. Sometimes what may seem like such a small step is often overlooked by the masses.
What is one change that you could incorporate into your life, business or relationships? The point is to be consistent, realizing that it is important to stack your experiences upon one another. The compounding effect over the long term can be profound once one new technique or strategy is integrated into our lives. A one degree shift is barely noticeable when measured by just a few inches. However, that same one degree shift a mile later will be vastly more noticeable.
However, many are afraid of the effort that must be put forth to make the changes that will enhance their lives.
Mark Twain offered a solution for those anxious about making changes. He said that if everyone swallowed a frog first thing in the morning they would enjoy the rest of their day so much more.
His point was to be disciplined in the morning, tackle the tough challenges and strategies first at the beginning of the day, then enjoy the benefits of a sense of accomplishment the rest of the day. Sometimes the most difficult thing is to simply begin, but once the frog is swallowed the rest is far easier.
Maybe your new strategy will be uncomfortable at first, so do it early each day, and in the end you may find it will change your entire life. The only real way to lose is to never begin.
