Most folks go to a personal trainer to slim down, tone up, decrease blood pressure and/or create some kind of enhancement in their physical body. With that being said, it makes sense to postulate that the majority of personal trainers primarily focus on optimizing their clients' physical fitness. Not Dennis Grounds.
Dennis is the founder of West Hollywood's healing studio Training Grounds for Life and incorporates life coaching and spiritual healing modalities into his personal training sessions.
In addition to life coaching and healing, clients of the West Hollywood facility focus on cardio circuit, functional training, core training, pilates, yoga and nutrition. Dennis accomplishes this feat in a succinct 60-minute session he created called the R.A.Y. Method.
Aside from being a certified life coach, nutritionist, former gymnast and aerobic instructor, Dennis is an intuitive medium who connects people to their body, mind and soul. Now when was the last time your personal trainer incorporated "mediumship" into your training session?
L.A. Fitness Examiner Paule-Valerie had a few questions for Dennis Grounds in light of his unique blending of mind-body-spirit fitness:
PV: What is the most inspirational and/or biggest breakthrough you've seen in a client's level of physical fitness and overall life success?
DG: One that I find most inspiring is the story of my client who is 75 years old. When she first started working with me, she was afraid to run on the treadmill due to a previous fall she once had had. She was on three different osteoporosis medications because she was genetically prone to getting osteoporosis. She had difficulty losing weight. Today she runs on the treadmill for 45 minutes, three times a week before our hour workout. She now takes only one preventive medication for osteoporosis and her weight is the lowest it has been in years. Her doctors tell her to keep doing whatever she is doing and that her body is that of a 50 year old.
PV: Which particular modalities do you use during the healing portion of your sessions?
DG: The modalities I use are breath work, meditation, visualization and intuition. My healing sessions are similar to Reiki. I am clairvoyant, clairaudient, clairsentient and claircognizant. I use all of these in my sessions as well as allowing the energy to flow through my hands.
PV: How do you incorporate your intuitive medium abilities during sessions?
DG: It is a natural and organic process. Information comes to me at different times. Sometimes it is during our meditation, coaching, working out or sometimes when my client is not even with me, I get information.
PV: How often do your clients see you in order to achieve results? What kind of results are your clients looking for?
DG: Each client has their specific goals they want to achieve. My R.A.Y. method clients see me on the average 2 – 3 times a week. Life coaching and healing clients once a week. The results my clients are looking for is what is next in there life in re; to career, finances, health & well-being, relationships.
PV: Do you have a staff of certified trainers and coaches that work with your clients as well?
DG: I have certified Pilates instructors who teach Pilates here at Training Grounds. Other than that, I am a "one man show." I am the only one who does coaching, healing, training, Pilates.
PV: What inspired you to found Training Grounds for Life? What's next for the company?
DG: Through my own personal growth and development physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, I was at the threshold of what was next for me in my life. With all of this wisdom, education and gifts, I knew that I was supposed to share this in a big way. So what’s next … I have created some TV shows, books, tele-seminars, retreats, and whatever else the universe has plan for me.
