JACKSONVILLE, Fla., August 27, 2013 – One Spark today announced the kickoff of their online crowd funding campaign with RocketHub to raise $50,000 towards the April 2014 festival’s second year operating costs. The crowd funding campaigns will run September 1 - October 15, 2014. “Goods,” or rewards for donating to One Spark’s campaign, include everything from a shout-out on Twitter for a $10 donation to having One Spark’s digital media manager get a tattoo of your choice on his left shin for an $800 donation.
Last year, One Spark’s initial seed money was raised using online crowd funding. One Spark raised $106,689 in September 2012 using online crowd funding, beating the set goal of $90,000 and demonstrating the viability of the project. The goal amount was reduced this year as One Spark shifts to a business- and community-based sponsorship funding model.
“Crowd funding is at the heart of One Spark, and both One Spark and RocketHub demonstrate crowd funding’s power, so this partnership was a no-brainer,” said One Spark’s Executive Director Joe Sampson. “The Jacksonville community has been incredibly supportive of One Spark, and those who supported us through our crowd funding campaign last year were a big part of why we were able to host our inaugural festival. I want to thank Jacksonville for their support and ask them to consider once again supporting our efforts by donating at least $10 to our campaign to make One Spark 2014 bigger and better.”
“RocketHub is excited to partner with One Spark to support their initiative of bringing together people with great ideas - as crowd funding now plays an important role in creativity, entrepreneurship and community building,” said RocketHub’s CEO and co-founder Brian Meece.
Meece has a local connection with Jacksonville- a Florida native, he attended the University of North Florida where he studied communications. Meece also worked at the Veterans Memorial Arena while attending UNF before leaving the area and launching his successful RocketHub endeavor.
