One of her finest moments: Amy Winehouse covers a Beatle song

Amy Winehouse, who died today at age 27, was not known for having many stylistic links to the Beatles. She did, however, draw reminders of vintage girl singers that the Beatles drew upon for inspiration.

You may not know it, but she did cover a Beatle song. In the video at left, she sings "All My Loving," accompanied only by an acoustic guitar. Even Winehouse detractors have to admit this is a stunning performance.

Neil Portnow, president and CEO of the Recording Academy issued this statement in reaction to her death: "Five-time GRAMMY® winner Amy Winehouse was a dynamic performer and musician who seamlessly blended rock, jazz, pop, and soul and created a sound all her own. Her rich, soulful and unique voice reflected her honest songwriting and earned her a devoted fan following, critical acclaim, and the genuine respect and admiration of her musical peers. She will forever be remembered for her immense talent, and her music will live on for generations to come. Our deepest sympathies go out to her family, friends, and fans during this difficult time."

Like Winehouse, Pete Ham of Badfinger also died at 27. Winehouse becomes the newest member of the so-called 27 Club.
