Naples is situated in the southeast corner of Long Beach between Belmont Shore and Seal Beach. It's a neighborhood in Alamitos Bay comprised of a chain of man-made canals, multi-story homes and boats-- make that yachts--and waterside walking paths.
• Dress: Something comfortable enough to walk in yet nice enough to dine at an upscale rib restaurant.
• Expense: Dinner, coffee, dessert, and walk around the island for two, $60-100, depending on cocktails and choice of entrée.
Dinner: Naples Rib Company is open at 3:00 P.M. Sundays and 4:00 P.M. the rest of the week. They are known throughout Long Beach and Orange County as the place to go when you crave barbecue-baby back ribs, St. Louis Ribs, Prime Rib, chicken, sword and shrimp - even Louisiana Hot Sausages. Naples Rib Company has the charm and flavors of a cozy family restaurant rather than the pre-packaged look and taste of a national chain. After dinner enjoy a cup of coffee and Double Chocolate Suicide Cake or Original Hershey Peanut Butter Ice Cream Pie.
For more info: Naples Rib Company 5800 East 2nd Street Long Beach, CA (562) 439-7427.
Evening Walk: To burn off your barbecue intoxication, take a walk around Naples Island. Just make a left out the restaurant door, which will take you northwest along 2nd Street. Make another left on Raveena Drive. You've now entered the residential section of Naples. Just ahead you'll see the Tivoli fountain; keep walking until you reach water. Making a left or right will take you around Rivo Alto Canal. The walk is especially colorful at Christmastime when the light are up and people come from all over to share in the festivities.
