Reuters states that McDonald's will give away more than a million free McMuffins across China on March 17, 2013.
On Friday, Chinese state TV will air an exposé on the news program "3.15" that focuses on companies that have been accused of violating worker rights.
McDonald's is one of the corporations included on the show that marks World Consumer Rights Day.
Last year, McDonald's was criticized on food safety and "3.15" publicizes this in the show that will air on March 15.
"The minute there are questions about your practices that appear in any way credible, that can be devastating to consumer trust and extremely difficult to get back." - Shanghai-based James Roy, a senior analyst at China Market Research Group via Huffington Post.
McDonald's million McMuffin giveaway takes place just two days after the exposé airs, but the fast food chain states that the timing is purely coincidental.
