As the demographics in our country are changing and the 55+ communities become more prevelent boomers are choosing one level living. The ranch style construction of homes are viable options, as well as one-level condos/villas. It becomes a seamless effort to go from street level to home without the worry of stairs.
Back in the nineties, living in a newly constructed two-bed, two-bath condo on the ground level was ideal. Deborah was a single mom, raising a 4-year old and the split bedroom floor plan worked well.
The building housed 12 units and was surrounded by park land. Across from an elementary school, next door was a strip shopping center anchored by a major grocery chain, with mail services, boutiques and restaurants. The location, location, location was great!
And let's face it downsizing is not the worst that could happen, one level living has its pluses.
Look for at least 1,000 sq. ft. of space for a nice sized dwelling. The smaller sized home will likely lend itself to lower energy costs, as well.
Lower levels are convenient for an "aging in place" adult and we all get there sooner than later, hopefully.
