A New Smyrna beach man was killed in a traffic accident early Saturday near Edgewater, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. FHP spokesperson Sgt. Kim Montes says 21-year old Augustus Stoker was transported to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, but died from his injuries. A passenger in the vehicle, 21-year old Devon Linssens, also of New Smyrna Beach, was listed in critical condition at Halifax Medical Center following the accident.

Troopers say Stoker was eastbound on Volco Road at Lingo Grove Road “…at a high rate of speed…” and lost control of the 1998 Ford pickup truck for an unknown reason around 12:20 Saturday morning. The FHP says the truck then struck two trees on the south shoulder of the road. The impact, according to troopers, tore the roof from the truck and Stoker was “…partially ejected…” from the vehicle. The crash remains under investigation according to the FHP.
