One Humble Group of Trailblazers Who Made History

“As these facts were shared told with this reporter by Barbara Butler, the historian who made history by becoming “the FIRST” female Navy Corpsman to serve her country via the Marine Corps”

Recently, some of us were chosen as panelist to showcase our history making as "FIRST" in what we have done, and how we can better serve our young people, who we'll past our baton to, so that others can benefit from our knowledge and experience in Onslow County, NC.

This was yet another branch of Black History this month of February. The panel was made up of “The FIRST” Black Marine Corps Commanding Officer, of Montfort Point/Camp Johnson, “the FIRST” Black Fire Fighter in Onslow County.

“The First” Black Judicial Court Judge in Onslow County, “the FIRST” Black NBA (National Basketball Association) Coach from Onslow County, “the FIRST” Onslow County Black Veterinarian, “the First” Black Police Officer and the longest serving in Onslow County, and me, Barbara Butler, “the First” female Navy Corpsman to serve with the United States Marine Corps.
