Per online records, Ryan Grafft of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 31 years of age, has been accused of shooting three horses. The animals were peacefully grazing on nibbles of grass in their pasture, located near Swisher in Iowa’s Johnson County, when Grafft shot them for no apparent reason.

According to court records, Grafft has been charged with criminal mischief, livestock abuse and several other counts not disclosed publicly by officials. He is incarcerated at the Johnson County Jail where he is being held on $17,500 bond.

The Cedar Rapids television station KCRG has been following this story closely. KCRG says that Grafft killed one of the horses and wounded the other two horses.

Per Johnson County Sheriff Lonny Pulkrabek, “The two wounded horses are expected to recover.”

The owner of the horses has confirmed that he never met and does not know Grafft. He cannot understand why anyone would harm his horses.

Leon Spies, Grafft's attorney, has declined to provide any comments about the alleged accusations against his client.
