It took only one goal, scored by Emma van der Heide with 25:14 left in the first half to lead the Benilde-St. Margaret's Red Knights to a 1-0 win over the Duluth Denfeld Hunters Thursday night at St. Louis Park High School.
The Red Knights, the defending Class A state champions earned a return trip to the Metrodome when van der Heide went throught two Hunter defenders on the left side of goalkeeper Megan Lazzaro and sent the ball into the net.
It would turn out to be the game's lone goal as Lazzaro, described by Denfeld head coach Ron Weber as a key to the season's success kept the score at one with three outstanding saves. The defense was also a factor with several key blocks.
BSM, seeded second will take on the Mankato West Scarlets Monday, October 28 at 10 AM at the Metrodome. The unseeded Scarlets got two goals apiece from Hannah Fox and Madison Burandt to beat the third seeded La Crescent Lancers 5-2.
The first semifinal game will pit the top seeded Blake Bears and the fourth seeded Totino-Grace Eagles. Both teams earned shutouts Thursday in St. Cloud with the Bears shutting out Sartell-St. Stephen 3-0 and the Eagles, despite being outshot 24-7 got a goal from Nicole Newman to beat the Hill-Murray Pioneers 1-0.
