The newest meeting place in City Heights, opened for February, sheltered Friday night visitors from the urban dramas on University Avenue, on February 14th. Just off the sidewalk, one block west of Fairmount Avenue, the night hours a family and teens spent amidst urban trees, in the mini-park courtyard, went by, with no surprises.
Black steel gates left open at City Heights Square kept the time spent taking a breath in the night air safe. Steps taken on the courtyard tiles lit by both the par lights and sidewalk lights lasted as long as the locals decided. Part of open space life in the city.
Park locals made the best out of sitting at a picnic table while other locals stopped in at the village fruit smoothie shop, Fruitopia, found around the corner on University Avnue. Close to the village townhomes, the City Heights gatherings came free, or, at a small business price. The avenue pizza shop, steps from Fruitopia, kept its doors openn to the locals with pocket money.
No chess was played at night at City Heights Square Mini-Park. Talking, and, enjoying the city nature surroundings added up to a simple local story.
THis is A Passage for the Times.
