One family dominates North East Triathlon

The North East Triathlon was held yesterday, Aug. 25, 2013, with almost 300 triathletes participating. The event offers both a sprint (750-meter swim, 17.7-mile bike and 3.1-mile run) and an international (1,500-mile swim, 23.2-mile bike and 6.2-mile run) distance,

For the Sprint distance, four of the top finishers are from the same family: father and son were first and second, while daughter and mother were sixth and seventh.

Blair Saunders and his 15-year old son, Brett, took first and second place, respectively. Blair completed the event in one hour, 19 minutes and 41 seconds, and Brett in one hour, 22 minutes and 35 seconds. Brooke Saunders, 17, the first woman to complete the event, finished in one hour, 27 minutes and 57 seconds, and Jocely Saunders finished in one hour, 28 minutes and 17 seconds. The Saunders are from Newark, Del.
