One Direction won the prizes for Best British Video (for Best Song Ever) and Best Brits Global Success and at the 2014 Brit Awards, which took place at the O2 Arena in London on Feb. 19. James Corden hosted the Brit Awards ceremony for the fifth time and what he says will be the last time. ITV televised the show live in the U.K. at 8 p.m. GMT.

It was the first time that the Brit Awards had the category for Best British Video. The category was voted on by the public via Twitter.

Meanwhile, several other "X Factor" stars attended the 2014 Brit Awards, including:

  • "The X Factor" Australia judge Dannii Minogue, who was accompanied by her sister Kylie Minogue, who is currently a judge on "The Voice" U.K.
  • Former "X Factor" U.S./U.K. judge Nicole Scherzinger
  • Marvin Humes of JLS, the singing group that came in second place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2008. JLS disbanded in 2013, and Humes is now co-host of "The Voice" U.K.

Interestingly enough, Corden and "Best Song Ever" director Ben Winston conceived the concept of the "Best Song Ever" video, which featured the members of One Direction portraying themselves as well as disguised as various characters. In the video, One Direction are pitched cheesy ideas for a One Direction movie by out-of-touch Hollywood types. One Direction's Niall Horan and Louis Tomlison portrayed middle-age executives, One Direction's Harry Styles played a nerdy marketer, One Direction's Liam Payne played a flamboyant choreographer, and One Direction's Zayn Malik played a female secretary in the office. One Direction rejects the ideas and then take over the office with a tongue-in-cheek song-and-dance routine.

After One Direction won the award for Best Brits Global Success, Styles did not immediately appear with his band mates on stage because he was in the bathroom. Payne joked on stage when talking about Styles, "Has anyone seen a curly-headed one? Well, there's four of us now."

Payne added, "This is an international award, so I want to thank our international team, Edgar Bergen and Mark Collen, thank you very much for all the hard work you guys have done for us. The label, management. Who else are we thanking? We're thanking the fans."

Styles then ran up on stage to join his One Direction band mates as Payne cheered. Styles said, "I'm really sorry. I was having a wee [British slang for urinating]. The toilets are ages away. What did we win? A massive thank you to all of our incredible, incredible fans. Everybody here, thank you so much. Thanks for having us again."

During the acceptance speech for Best British Video, Payne said, "Here we are, this time as an actual five. Thank you, everyone. We really want to thank the fans on Twitter. Thank you so much for voting for us. I've had a few drinks, so Niall, do you want to take over here? Go for it!"

Horan added, "I'd like to thank James Corden for doing a great job tonight. Can we give it up for James Corden, please? What a beautiful man!"

Payne then pointed to award presenter Jimmy Carr, who was standing nearby on stage, and said, "I want to say one more thing as well. Jimmy Carr, I'm a big fan."

Styles then said, "I want to say a massive, massive thank you to the director of our video, Mr. Benjamin Winston. He's a legend, so thank you so much for that."

Tomlinson then shouted, "Did we thank Ben? Thank you, Ben! Yeah!" The other members of One Direction then joined in on the cheering.

As previously reported, One Direction was nominated for four prizes at the 2014 Brit Awards: Best British Group, Best British Video, Best Brits Global Success and Best British Single of the Year for "One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks)."

"X Factor" U.K. alum Olly Murs was nominated for Best British Single of the Year for "Dear Darlin'." He did not attend the 2014 Brit Awards.

With four nominations each, Bastille and Disclosure were the leading nominees for the 2014 Brit Awards.

In the end, Arctic Monkeys was the big winner, with two prizes: Best British Group and MasterCard Best Album of the Year (for "AM"). Bastille won British Breakthrough Act, while Disclosure was shut out and won no Brit Awards this year.

One Direction has previously won two Brit Awards: Best British Single of the Year (for "What Makes You Beautiful") at the 2012 Brit Awards and Best Brits Global Success at the 2013 Brit Awards.

Murs has been nominated for several Brit Awards but he has not won.

Most of the categories for the Brit Awards are voted on by the public.

On "The X Factor" U.K., One Direction came in third place in 2010. Murs came in second place in 2009.
