One Direction planning documentary film of 2014 world tour

One Direction is planning to a documentary film that will focus primarily on the group's 2014 "Where We Are" world tour. An unnamed source told the Daily Mirror in a report published on May 10, 2014: “They are being filmed as they tour the world by the man behind the last movie, Ben Winston. There are no firm plans of what will happen to the footage but top of the agenda is another movie.”

The movie's title and release date have not yet been announced. It also has not been announced if the movie will be released in cinemas or directly to home video.

The documentary film "One Direction: This Is Us" (directed by Morgan Spurlock) was released in cinemas in 2013 and grossed $67 million in ticket sales worldwide, according to Sony Pictures Entertainment. "One Direction: This Is Us" was the world's highest-grossing documentary film of 2013.

Spurlock, Winston and Simon Cowell were among the producers of the movie. Winston has directed several music videos for One Direction, including "Best Song Ever," "Story of My Life," "Midnight Memories" and "You & I."

A global viewing party for "One Direction: This Is Us" took place on Dec. 20, 2013, three days after the movie's U.S./Canadian release on DVD, Blu-ray and VOD.

One Direction came in third place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010. The group was formed by Cowell after he and other "X Factor" decision makers took five solo contestants (Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson) and put them into a group. One Direction has since become the world's biggest-selling act to emerge from "The X Factor."

According to Sony Music, One Direction has sold 36 million albums, singles and DVDs worldwide. The group's first three albums ("Up All Night," "Take Me Home" and "Midnight Memories") debuted at No. 1 in several countries. In addition, the group's tours have been massively successful, with many of the concerts selling out a year in advance. In 2014, One Direction is one of the few music acts that can headline and sell out stadium shows around the world.
