One Direction is thinking about starring in a reality show. According to a Daily Mirror report published on Feb. 11, 2014, Simon Cowell said, "We're going to talk about that in the next couple of weeks. They're always busy, these guys. The important thing is they've got a new album out this year."

Based on reactions on the Internet, most One Direction fans don't like the idea of a One Direction reality show, since reality shows are often considered the realm of three types of people: those who want to become famous; has-been celebrities; or C-list stars who want to boost their careers. (See a sampling of comments at the end of this article.)

Keep in mind that Cowell has said many things to the media that have turned out not to be true. There are too many of examples of his false statements/overblown hype to list here but perhaps his biggest and most recent untruth to the media was his December 2013 announcement that "The X Factor" U.S. would be renewed for a fourth season in 2014. On Feb. 7, 2014, Fox announced that the show was cancelled.

Cowell is given most of the credit for creating One Direction, a boy band whose five members (Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne) originally auditioned as solo contestants on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010. Cowell was One Direction's "X Factor" mentor on the show, and he signed the group to Syco Music (the company he owns with Sony Music) after One Direction came in third place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010.

Since then, One Direction has become the world's biggest-selling act to emerge from "The X Factor." The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry named One Direction the biggest-selling global act of 2013.

All three of One Direction's albums so far ("Up All Night," "Take Me Home" and "Midnight Memories") have debuted at No. 1 in several countries. The group has also had sold-out tours in many countries and is headlining a world tour of stadiums in 2014.

One Direction's fourth album is due out in late 2014. The album's titles, songs and release dates are to be announced.

The One Direction documentary "One Direction: This Is Us" did solid business around the world and was the highest-grossing documentary of 2013. According to Box Office Mojo, "One Direction: This Is Us" had $68.5 million in ticket sales worldwide, with about $28.9 million of that total from the U.S. and Canada.

The movie got mixed-to-positive reviews. Most of the criticism about the movie was that it was too sanitized and not very well-rounded. For example, although One Direction's partying antics and romances are often covered in the media, none of those aspects of their lives were shown in the movie.

If One Direction does a reality show, it's highly unlikely that it will show the guys getting drunk or private details of their love lives.

In addition, One Direction has already gotten some backlash for being overexposed, so many people believe that a reality show will cheapen One Direction's image and create an even bigger backlash against the group.

In other One Direction news, on Feb. 11, 2014, the Brit Awards announced nominations for two additional categories: Best British Video and Best Brits Global Success. One Direction's "Best Song Ever" is nominated for Best Video. The other nominees in the category are Ellie Goulding's "Burn"; Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding's "I Need Your Love"; John Newman's "Love Me Again"; and Naughty Boy featuring Sam Smith's "La La La."

The 2014 Brit Awards ceremony takes place at the O2 Arena in London on Feb. 19. As previously reported, One Direction is nominated for two other prizes at the show: Best British Group and Best British Single of the Year for "One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks)."

One Direction has previously won two Brit Awards: Best British Single of the Year (for "What Makes You Beautiful") at the 2012 Brit Awards and Best Brits Global Success at the 2013 Brit Awards.

Here are samplings of Twitter comments about One Direction possibly having a reality show:

"If you look up the definition of "disaster" in the dictionary you will find "a one direction reality show"
