One Direction is the teen group that got their big break on the UK TV show, “The X Factor.” Simon Cowell assembled the quintet after they were voted off the show. It was a gamble for sure, but the newly named One Direction made it all the way to third place on “The X Factor.” The group immediately signed with Cowell’s Syco Records label and the rest, as they say, is history.
Their debut album titled “Up All Night” hit the number one position in 15 different countries around the world. Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson are now global sensations and their level of fame rivals that of Justin Bieber. One Direction was the first UK band to debut at No. 1 in the United States with a freshman album and it won three MTV VMAs in 2012. The group currently has over 19 million Facebook and 14 million Twitter followers. Their “What Makes You Beautiful” video has garnered more than 26 million views on YouTube.
