On January 14, 2013, One Direction spent time in the African country of Ghana for Red Nose Day, a designated day to raise money for the charity Comic Relief. This year's Red Nose Day takes place in the U.K. on March 15, 2013.
One Direction's fame is truly worldwide: Video has surfaced of One Direction being greeted by squealing fans outside of the hotel in Ghana where One Direction was staying. One Direction wasn't mobbed in Ghana the way the group usually is in North America, Europe or Australia and New Zealand, but the video is proof that fans will find One Direction (the biggest act to emerge from "The X Factor") wherever the group is in the world.
One Direction's Niall Horan tweeted: "Massive thanks to @rednoseday for taking us to Ghana! It was incredible! real eye opener! We take so much for granted over here ! Watch comic relief this @rednoseday , you are in for a shock and eye opener ! and fun too. And from what I gathered! Michael Essien you are a hero to alot of those people!"
One Direction's Louis Tomlinson tweeted: "So honoured to be a part of @rednoseday . Met some beautiful people over in Ghana. Please donate big this year!"
The official One Direction Twitter feed posted this message: "So...you probably heard the boys were in Ghana at the weekend? We can't wait to show you what they got up to... 1DHQ."
As previously reported, One Direction recorded a cover version of Blondie's "One Way or Another" as an official Red Nose Day song. The song goes on sale in February 2013 on a date to be announced. Pre-orders begin on January 31, 2013.
