‘One Direction’: Did they copy ‘The Wanted’, or do they have style of their own? (Video)

One Direction”, the boy band phenomenon created by Simon Cowell via their formation on UK’s “The X Factor” are getting a major dissing today by fellow boy band “The Wanted”. It seems the tension between the two competing musical groups is on the rise once again, according to Entertainmentwise today. A couple of members of “The Wanted” said in a recent magazine interview that they believe they invented the new genre of boy bands, and suggested that those that have followed are copying them. Meanwhile, the stylist for “One Direction” is sharing some behind the scenes secrets about the boys and their clothes.

“The Wanted” member Tom Parker told “OK!” magazine, “What I'm proud of is that I feel like we started this whole generation of new boy bands not dancing. We were the first one there. We're the coolest boy band around”.

Jay McGuiness added, “I think everyone saw us and thought, that's the blueprint, we'll tidy it up a bit and then we'll make a lot of money”. Sounds like a bit of sour grapes over how hugely successful 1D has become.

But on a lighter note, “One Direction” stylist Caroline Watson reveals that Liam Payne is the unlikely reigning champion when it comes to the band member with the most expensive taste in clothes. Apparently the 19 year-old has a thing for expensive designer attire.

At least more so than band mates Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Harry Styles. Watson, 33, tells “Look” magazine, “Liam's got the most expensive taste. He'll say, 'Oh, I've seen this Dior jacket I like, and I think, ‘Uh oh’”.

Watson, who has worked with the likes of Britney Spears and “JLS”, admits also that Harry Styles has a bad habit of clipping clothes from photo shoots. She says the 18 year-old beau of Taylor Swift “forgets” after a day taking pictures, and takes them home without asking, according to PopCrush.

Watson couldn’t help but give a nod to Zayn Malik’s style progression, admitting that he’s had a “dramatic overhaul” over the last 12 months. “Before he was all about baseball jackets and trainers, but now he's really into vintage pieces”.

But as Zayn’s style is taking a leap forward, it’s apparently not because he’s spending all his time shopping and primping. According to a story in Cambio, band mate Liam Payne fingered Zayn as the laziest of the group.

Liam did make clear that Zayn just loves to sleep, saying, “He's not lazy in an 'I can't be bothered to get you a drink' way, just in the way he sleeps, cos he's always the last to get up”.

So it would seem Zayn’s style transformation isn’t because he’s spending all of his time in front of a mirror. Let’s face it, as the boys continue to grow musically, financially and physically, their outward images are going to evolve and each will develop their own sense of style aside from 1D.

Who do you think is the most stylish of the bunch?
