"X Factor" stars One Direction, Demi Lovato and Fifth Harmony are among the first group of nominees announced for the 2014 "Teen Choice Awards", which made the announcement on June 17, 2014. The rest of the show's nominees, participating celebrities and the show's host are to be announced.
Fox will have the U.S. telecast of the 2014 "Teen Choice Awards", which take place on Aug. 10 at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles. Voting for the awards show opened on June 17, 2014, at the official "Teen Choice Awards" website. The show is asking that only people ages 13 to 19 vote, but there's realistically no way of knowing the ages of the people who vote online.
One Direction received nominations for Choice Music Group and Choice Male Hottie. Fifth Harmony is up for Choice Music Group. Lovato and One Direction's Harry Styles are each nominated for Choice Smile. One Direction and Lovato have received several Teen Choice Awards in the past. This is the first time that Fifth Harmony has been nominated for a Teen Choice Award.
One Direction came in third place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010. The group was formed on the the show when Simon Cowell and other "X Factor" decision makers decided to put five singers (Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson) who originally auditioned as solo contestants into the same group. Cowell was One Direction's mentor on "The X Factor" U.K., and he signed the group to Syco Music, the record company he co-owns with Sony Music. One Direction has since become the biggest-selling worldwide act to emerge from "The X Factor," by having No. 1 hits and sold-out tours in numerous countries.
Fifth Harmony came in third place on "The X Factor" U.S. in 2012. Just like One Direction, the group was formed when Cowell put together five singers (Camila Cabello, Ally Brooke, Normani Hamolton, Dinah Jane Hansen and Lauren Jauregui) who originally auditioned as solo contestants into the same group. Cowell was Fifth Harmony's mentor on the show, and he also signed the group to Syco Music. Fifth Harmony has had modest sales for the group's 2013 EP "Better Together" and the singles from the EP. Fifth Harmony performed at several music festivals, and has been the opening act for Lovato and "X Factor" U.K. alum Cher Lloyd on separate tours.
Lovato was a judge on "The X Factor" U.S. in 2012 and 2013. She quit the show at the end of the show's third season in December 2013 because she said she wanted to focus on her music career. "The X Factor" U.S. was officially cancelled two months later.
