One Direction, the most successful act to come out of "The X Factor" so far, is going to have one of the biggest world tours of 2013. One Direction is headlining arenas on the tour, and the concert dates sold out quickly, with most of the concerts selling out a year in advance. And the One Direction guys who have girlfriends are making sure that their girlfriends spend as much time as possible with them on the tour, as well as on Valentine's Day this year.
The tour (in support of One Direction's second album, "Take Me Home") launches February 22 in London and will go to various cities in Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand through October. One Direction's third album should be released by November or December 2013.
One Direction's Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik all have steady girlfriends.
One Direction's Harry Styles and Niall Horan are unattached.
As previously reported, One Direction will by traveling by private jet on the tour to avoid the hassles of long lines and paparazzi in airport areas that are designated for commercial flights. Part of the tour will also be filmed for One Direction's 3-D documentary (directed by Morgan Spurlock) that will be in cinemas on August 30, 2013.
Regardless of the relationship status of the guys in One Direction, most of their fans are females who have crushes on at least one of the guys in the band. Here's what these fans need to know about the girlfriend situation on the tour:
Liam Payne and Danielle Peazer
Payne, 19, and Peazer, 24, have been dating since late 2010, except for a highly publicized breakup that they had from September to November 2012. By December 2012, they were back together. They met in 2010 when he was a contestant on "The X Factor" U.K. and she was a backup dancer on the show. (One Direction came in third place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010.)
Even though Peazer will be working as a backup dancer on "The X Factor" U.K. 2013 tour (which runs from January 28 to February 28), there's just a six-day overlap between that tour and One Direction's U.K. concert dates. And luckily for the couple, Peazer has the day off on Valentine's Day and can easily pop over to London to spend time with her man before she heads back on the tour.
Of all of the One Directions girlfriends, Peazer is the most flexible with her free time, so insiders are expecting her and Payne to be the One Direction couple that spends the most time on the tour together. Sources said that one of the reasons why they broke up was because of the long separations that the two had when Payne was away on tour in 2012, but the couple wanted to make sure that in 2013, those long separations won't happen again.
A One Direction insider says, "Liam and Danielle are lovely couple. People are rooting for them to stay together. She's not putting her career on hold, but she's definitely making more time for him to be with him on tour this year."
Louis Tomlinson and Eleanor Calder
Tomlinson, 21, and Calder, 20, have been dating since late 2011. Although she is a student at the University of Manchester, she is finding the time to go on as many One Direction tour dates as possible. When she's on a summer break, she will be able to be with Tomlinson even more on the tour.
Their relationship is somewhat controversial because many One Direction fans believe that Tomlinson is secretly gay and that Calder is a cover-up for his alleged homosexuality. In interviews and on Twitter, Tomlinson has adamantly denied these rumors. He says his romance with Calder is real, he's in love with her, and is in a monogamous relationship with her. Tomlinson has also denied that he had a secret love affair with Styles.
A source comments, "There's been a lot of gossip about Louis and Eleanor, but no one can argue that he's the most romantic one in the group. They both love to go shopping, so they'll be spending a lot of time and money on the tour doing that."
Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards
Malik, 20, and Edwards, 19, began dating in April 2012. Edwards is a member of the girl group Little Mix, which won "The X Factor" U.K. in 2011. Little Mix is also on a U.K. tour in the winter of 2013, but the tour ends on February 24, so there's only a two day-overlap between Little Mix's U.K. tour dates and One Direction's U.K. tour dates. And don't be surprised if Malik spends some time on the Little Mix tour.
Little Mix has the day off on Valentine's Day, so it's assumed that Malik and Edwards will spend Valentine's Day together. And even if Little Mix had a concert on Valentine's Day, insiders say that Malik is so in love with Edwards, he would still go wherever the tour was to be with her on this special day.
Malik and Edwards' relationship has been dogged by rumors that he has cheated on her, but Malik has denied to those allegations. He and Edwards have said in interviews that when they have to spend time apart because of their work schedules, they trust each other to stay faithful.
An insider observes, "Zayn and Perrie always want to avoid the paparazzi taking photos of them together. They're homebodies, so they're the most likely to choose to stay in their hotel room instead of going out on dates where they'll be hounded by paparazzi and fans."
Another source adds, "Little Mix is planning to hit it big in North America in 2013. There's talk of Little Mix being the opening act for One Direction's 2013 tour in North America. Zayn and Perrie obviously really want that to happen because that will mean more time they can spend together on the tour."
Little Mix and One Direction are both signed to Syco Music (the record company co-owned by Simon Cowell and Sony Music) and are both represented by London-based Modest! Management. It sounds like Little Mix is the top choice to be the opening act for One Direction's North American leg of the tour, so don't be surprised if it happens. The North American release date for Little Mix's first album, "DNA," is to be announced. The album was a hit in the U.K., Ireland and Australia in 2012.
The Available Bachelors
As for the available bachelors in One Direction, Styles (who is 18) is expected to continue to have a reputation for being a playboy. However, there are constant rumors that he's secretly gay or bisexual. Many One Direction fans insist that Styles is gay or bisexual, and nothing he says or does will change their minds. Other fans refuse to believe those rumors and say that Styles is heterosexual.
Since January 2012, Styles has refused to publicly name anyone he's been dating when he's asked about it in interviews. When he is seen on dates with certain women, he refuses to publicly confirm that he's dating them. However, he does say in interviews that he loves women, has an active sex life, and that he's a big flirt.
Whether people believe the gay/bisexual rumors or not about Styles, one thing that insiders agree on is that if BBC Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw, 28, didn't have to be in London every weekday because of his radio job, he would be traveling with One Direction on the tour, since he has become Styles' best friend and constant companion.
Horan, 19, has not had a steady girlfriend since One Direction became famous. He has said in interviews that he's too busy with his career to settle down in a serious relationship. Horan and Demi Lovato, 20, have admitted to having crushes on each other, but they have both said in many interviews that they are not dating each other and are just friends. Horan has been seen on dates and being affectionate with drama student Amy Green, 20, but insiders say that Horan and Green are not in love and are not exclusive with each other because it's a "friends with benefits" situation.
