On Aug. 19, 2013, One Direction and director Morgan Spurlock held a press conference in London to promote their 3-D documentary "One Direction: This Is Us," which arrives in U.K. cinemas on Aug. 29, 2013 and in U.S. and Canadian cinemas on Aug. 30, 2013. The movie's release date in other countries may vary.
Just like at most One Direction press conferences, the journalists asked the same, boring repetitive questions that One Direction has been asked in other interviews, so nothing new was really revealed. However, what was interesting was what One Direction avoided answering — namely, a question from a reporter who tried to get One Direction to talk about having a lifestyle of sex, drugs and rock'n'roll, such as with sex with groupies while the band is on tour. The reporter wondered why there weren't any sex and drugs in the movie.
Not surprisingly, One Direction didn't answer the question, as shown in this Showbiz 411 video footage from the press conference. I'm not sure what this reporter was thinking in asking this question, because no one in One Direction is going to reveal dark and dirty secrets at a press conference, considering that One Direction is a teen-idol group that has to maintain a certain "image" that can't be too scandalous because a large percentage of their fans are impressionable, underage children.
In response to the reporter's question, One Direction's Harry Styles said after he quickly gave himself the sign of the cross, "This is a family press conference!"
One Direction's Louis Tomlinson added, "We like to think we're rock and roll, but we're not, really."
Spurlock commented on One Direction's personalities: "They are so incredibly grounded and normal. And that's what comes across in the movie."
