One Direction is ranked at No. 2 on the list, while Lovato is ranked at No. 15. Taylor Swift is ranked at No. 1.

One Direction came in third place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010, and has since become the world's biggest-selling act to emerge from "The X Factor."

Lovato was a judge on "The X Factor" U.S. in 2012 and 2013. In December 2013, she left the show at the end of the show's third season because she says she wants to focus more on her music career.

One Direction's charity activities in 2013 included donating proceeds from the single "One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks)" to Comic Relief. One Direction's Harry Styles and Liam Payne also raised money through the fundraising platform Prizeo for Trekstock, a charity for cancer research. In addition, One Direction teamed up with Office Depot to launch an exclusive, limited-edition back-to-school collection with a percentage of the products’ sales being donated to the Office Depot Foundation to support anti-bullying education. One Direction also participated in the annual BBC Children in Need charity event. One Direction is also a big supporter of Rays of Sunshine, a charity for seriously ill children. It's estimated that One Direction has helped raise about $7 million for charity in 2013.

Lovato's charity activities in 2013 included fundraising for Free the Children, including setting up and donating items for an auction site on eBay and appearing on a celebrity edition of "The Price Is Right." In memory of her late father, Lovato teamed up with Cast Recovery to launch the Lovato Treatment Scholarship to provide help for people with mental illnesses. Lovato, who has gone public about being biploar, has said in interviews that her father and other members of her family have had a history of mental illnesses.
