On March 18, 2013, One Direction announced on its website and social media that One Direction's 3-D documentary is titled "This Is Us." The movie (which previously had the working title "1D3D") is scheduled for release in cinemas worldwide on Aug. 30, 2013.
"This Is Us" is directed by Oscar nominee Morgan Spurlock. "The X Factor" executive producer Simon Cowell is one of the producers of the movie.
Meanwhile, One Direction is confirmed to participate in the launch of The You Generation (a talent contest exclusively on YouTube) on March 20, 2013 at 7 p.m. BST. As previously reported, Cowell's Syco Entertainment is the company behind The You Generation. According to a press release, The You Generation is open to singers, dancers, magicians, cooks, photographers, visual artists and anyone who has “unconventional and original talents.” It has not been announced what the contest's grand prize will be.
Cowell was One Direction's mentor on "The X Factor" U.K., where the group came in third place in 2010. One Direction is signed to Syco Music, which is co-owned by Cowell and Sony Music.
One Direction launched its 2013 world tour on Feb. 23. Footage from One Direction's 2012 and 2013 world tours will be included in "This Is Us."
Meanwhile, on March 18, 2013, One Direction offered condolences to the loved ones of Kevin Benson, a 53-year-old worker who died from cardiac arrest after getting a head injury on March 17, 2013, while loading One Direction's equipment in the Liverpool Echo Arena in Liverpool, England.
A One Direction spokesperson told the Liverpool Echo newspaper: “The band, who were at their hotel in Manchester at the time, offer their sincere condolences, and their thoughts and prayers are with Kevin's family at this difficult time.”
In happier news, One Direction's Liam Payne, 19, and his 24-year-old dancer girlfriend Danielle Peazer have adopted a Siberian Husky puppy named Loki. The couple announced the news on Twitter.
Payne posted a photo of Loki with this accompanying message: “Everybody meet mine and @daniellepeazer new dog Loki :)”
Peazer tweeted this message about Loki: “The new love of mine and @Real_Liam_Payne’s life."
In a bizarre turn of events, the Daily Mirror reports that Internet troublemakers have been tweeting death threats against the dog.
