On Oct. 24, 2013, One Direction announced on its official Internet outlets that the group is performing at the 2013 American Music Awards (AMAs). The awards show takes place on Nov. 24 at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles. As previously reported, One Direction's second album, "Take Me Home," has been nominated for Favorite Album - Pop/Rock. The other nominees in the category are Taylor Swift's "Red" and Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience." One Direction is also nominated for Favorite Band, Duo or Group - Pop/Rock, a category whose other nominees are Imagine Dragons and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
All the nominations for the AMAs were announced on Oct. 10, 2013. ABC will have the U.S. telecast of 2013 AMAs. The three-hour show begins at 8 p.m. EST.
Meanwhile, One Direction also announced on Oct. 24, 2013, that the group's CD single "Story of My Life" will include a live bonus track of "Little Things." "Story of My Life" will have its radio premiere worldwide on Oct. 25, 2013, at 4 p.m. BST/11 a.m. EDT/8 a.m. PDT. "Story of My Life" goes on sale on Oct. 28, 2013.
One Direction will likely perform "Story of My Life" on the American Music Awards. "Story of My Life" is the second single from One Direction's third album, "Midnight Memories."
As previously reported, "Midnight Memories" has 14 tracks on the standard edition and 18 tracks on the deluxe edition.
As previously reported, "Midnight Memories" is scheduled for a worldwide release on Nov. 25, 2013. One Direction's first two albums ("Up All Night" and "Take Me Home") each debuted at No. 1 in several countries. "Midnight Memories" is expected to do the same. (One Direction is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the only U.K. group to have its first two albums debut at No. 1 in the U.S.)
Based on pre-orders, "Midnight Memories" has already hit the Top 10 on iTunes in many countries. The huge surge in pre-orders happened after One Direction announced that people who pre-order "Midnight Memories" on iTiunes will automatically get four tracks from the album in advance: "Story of My Life" on Oct. 28, 2013, followed by another track (to be announced) on Nov. 18, another track (to be announced) on Nov. 20 and another track (to be announced) on Nov. 22.
"Best Song Ever," the first single from "Midnight Memories," was a Top 10 hit in several countries when it was released in July 2013.
One Direction came in third place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010, and is the best-selling act to emerge from "The X Factor." According to Sony Music, as of October 2013, One Direction has sold 32 million singles, albums and DVDs worldwide.
However, One Direction has won numerous other prizes, including Brit Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, Teen Choice Awards, Billboard Music Awards, People's Choice Awards, Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards, ARIA Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards and Radio Disney Awards.
At the 2013 AMAs, the other performers announced so far are Miley Cyrus, Imagine Dragons and Florida Georgia Line. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis lead the AMA nominations in 2013, with six nominations. Swift and Timberlake follow with five nominations each, while Florida Georgia Line, Rihanna and Robin Thicke have four nominations each. Additionally, Bruno Mars and Imagine Dragons were each nominated for three awards.
Preceding the ABC broadcast for the fifth consecutive year is the “Coca-Cola Red Carpet LIVE! @ The 2013 AMAs” pre-show, hosted by Lance Bass, Rosie Pierri, Jordin Sparks and Jenna Ushkowitz. This year’s performers include Kurt Hugo Schneider, Jabbawockeez, Jesse McCartney and Fifth Harmony, the girl group that came in third place on "The X Factor" U.S. in 2012.
Live coverage will stream online for fans worldwide starting at 5 p.m. EST/2 p.m. PST on Nov. 24 and, for the first time, will be available on Yahoo.com, this year’s official digital distributor of the American Music Awards Experience. The stream can also be watched at TheAMAs.com, ABC.com, Time Warner Cable’s Facebook page and the websites within the Cumulus Radio Network, the AMAs official radio partner.
One Direction and Fifth Harmony are signed to Syco Music, the record company co-owned by Simon Cowell and Sony Music. Cowell mentored One Direction and Fifth Harmony on "The X Factor."
Each group formed when "The X Factor" put together five contestants who originally auditioned as solo singers but were rejected as solo singers and allowed to continue in the competition on the condition that they form a group.
As previously reported, that there will be a 1D Day worldwide event on Nov. 23, 2013.
According to the announcement: "1D Day will give fans from every corner of the world a unique opportunity to enter into One Direction’s lives through a seven-hour live broadcast with the band. 1D Day will be broadcast live from Los Angeles ... with further details to be announced.
"1D Day is the first live event of its kind, enabling fans from different countries and time-zones the chance to interact with the band throughout the live stream broadcast. With the quality of a high-end HD production and the intimacy of a web chat, the event will provide unparalleled access to One Direction’s world, helping the band reach fans in every country. It will feature special guest appearances, sketches with the band, fan-generated videos and live broadcasts from different countries.
"The 1D Day campaign launches today [Oct. 2, 2013] with competitions and fan events around the world which will ensure the fans are as big a part of the broadcast as the special guests and the band themselves. One Direction's 2013 world tour so far has gone to Europe and North America. For the rest of 2013, One Direction has tour dates in Australia, New Zealand and Asia. In 2014, One Direction launches the group's first stadium tour, which has announced dates in South America, the U.K. and Ireland. More 2014 tour dates for One Direction are to be announced.
One Direction also starred in the 3-D documentary "One Direction: This Is Us," which was released in several countries in late August 2013. According to Rentrak, "One Direction: This Is Us" so far has more than $62 million in ticket sales worldwide.
One Direction will be doing numerous personal appearances (exact dates to be announced) to promote "Midnight Memories." "The X Factor" also already announced that One Direction will perform on the U.K., U.S. and Australian editions of "The X Factor" in 2013 on dates to be announced.
