Naveen Andrews, who many know as Jafar from the recently cancelled ABC show “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” has landed a new gig on the upcoming Netflix series “Sense8.” The former “Lost” star will work alongside the former “Dr. Who” and “Torchwood” actress, Freema Agyeman, according to Classicalite on June 23.
“Sense8” is a series that spans the globe, taking viewers to different parts of the world to peek inside the minds of 8 strangers who are linked mentally.
The show’s synopsis is posted on its IMDB page and says, “A group of people around the world are suddenly linked mentally, and must find a way to survive being hunted by those who see them as a threat to the world's order.”
Series Showrunner J. Michael Straczynski revealed a few more details about the show in a recent interview with Deadline. In it, he explains the 8 strangers’ ability to see and communicate with one another comes on suddenly in the aftermath of a tragic death. The new ability allows them not only to see and each other and communicate as though they were in the same place. It also lets them share emotions and have access to each other’s deepest, darkest secrets.
“Not only must they figure out what happened and why and what it means for the future of humanity, they must do so while being hunted by an organization out to capture, kill or vivisect them,” Straczynski explains.
Naveen joins Daryl Hannah, Brian J. Smith, Tuppence Middleton, Aml Ameen, Freema Agyeman, Tena Desae, Doona Bae, Max Riemelt, Alfonso Herrera, Erendira Ibarra, Jamie Clayton, Miguel Silvestre and Terrence Mann. The core group of 8 strangers will consist of Ameen, Bae, Clayton, Desae, Middleton, Riemelt, Silvestri, and Smith, alphabetically speaking.
Andrews, who played fan favorite Sayid on “Lost,” brings an intensity to his work. His smoldering eyes can give him a romantic or sinister look with just the slightest change in his expression. How he figures into the plot has not yet been revealed but we’re excited to see this one. “Sense8” is tentatively set to air in 2015 on Netflix.
