Ariel is about to become a major character in Storybrooke. On Thursday, October 31 TVLine posted an interview with actress JoAnna Garcia Swisher, who will portray the mermaid Ariel on "Once Upon a Time" beginning this Sunday night on ABC.
Swisher revealed many character details about the famous mermaid, many of which spoil parts of the fairytale series. Swisher has been the front runner for the role since early in season one, when the show creators were forming idea for new characters to introduce on the show.
Ariel will appear in both Neverland and the Enchanted Forest because mermaids have the ability to swim between realms without the use of magic. Ariel meets Bandit Snow and the two talk about true love. The episode "Ariel" will feature Ariel and Prince Eric falling in love and using Ursula to make sure they get a happy ending, much like the movie. Lana Parrilla, who portrays Regina, will also play Ursula.
The mermaid will also be a bit of a kleptomaniac, and keeps a treasure bag with her at all times for items she finds, just like the treasure cave from the film "The Little Mermaid."The treasure bag will also be important when the mermaid needs to travel to different realms.
So far Ariel is expected to appear in Neverland to help the Storybrooke crew, in the Enchanted Forest to fall in love with Prince Eric, and in Storybrooke to help Belle. The infamous crab will also appear but the show has made changes to the character of Sebastian. No word on if Flounder will appear too.
"Ariel" will air on Sunday, November 3 at 8 p.m. on ABC. Tune in to find out more about the famous mermaid and how her arrival will impact the characters in all the realms. The character's backstory will be revealed as well as her magic involvement with Ursula and Snow.
