The ABC fairytale drama "Once Upon a Time" covers an impressive range of characters, and one of them may just get their own series. E! Online reported on Saturday, Feb. 23 that ABC is thinking about creating a spinoff show for the Mad Hatter. The quirky character debuted in the season one episode "Hat Trick" and originated in the story Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.
Sebastian Stan played the role of The Hatter in six episodes, but will not be able to commit to a new series. Stan has scheduling conflicts so the main character role will need to be recast. Stan's other television show credits include the CW drama "Gossip Girl" as Carter Bazien and "Kings" as Prince Jack Benjamin.
The Mad Hatter, known on the show as Jefferson, possesses a magic top hat which can be used to travel to different worlds. Jefferson uses the hat to do business for both Regina the Evil Queen and Rumplestiltskin. Jefferson ends up trapped in Wonderland after Regina leaves him there, and goes mad trying to built a hat that will take him home to his daughter. In Storybrooke, David saves Jefferson's life in exchange for information about the hat, and Jefferson is later reunited with his daughter.
