On Sunday, December 15 Wetpaint Entertainment posted a sneak preview for "New York City Serenade," the twelfth episode of the third season of "Once Upon a Time" which will air in March. The midseason finale altered the future of the characters from Storybrooke and introduced a new villain.
The sneak peek is just thirty seconds long but reveals that the lives of most of the fairytale characters has changed and become more complex. A new curse has fallen over Storybrooke which transported most of the town back to the Enchanted Forest. Phillip and Aurora are aware that a change has happened but they do not immediately encounter Mary Margaret, David and the rest of the group.
Meanwhile, Emma and Henry are still in New York City with no memory of Storybrooke of their previous life after driving over the town line. Captain Hook manages to talk to Emma again and tries to explain that her parents are in danger, but it was difficult getting her to believe in magic the first time. The preview shows Hook ended up in the Enchanted Forest as well, so it's unclear how he was able to return and track down Emma and Henry.
Mr. Gold is briefly shown in the promo, but it's not clear if he appears in a flashback or he finds a way back from his death. Since Peter Pan is no longer around to use magic to destroy everyone, a new villain will be introduced in the second half of the season, which was revealed at the end of the preview. The show will be putting a twist on The Wicked Witch of the West from the land of Oz, but it won't be Elphaba or Theodora. The witch will be played by actress Rebecca Mader and it's a mystery as to how she will be involved with Storybrooke.
The episode will air on Sunday, March 9 at 8 p.m. on ABC. Tune in to find out more about the new villain and if other characters from Oz will be entering the show. The series will return in the spring to play the final eleven episodes of season three uninterrupted.
