An evil witch is heading to Storybrooke, but she also has a sister. On Thursday, February 6 TVLine reported that the fairytale drama "Once Upon a Time" will be bringing the character of Glinda the Good Witch to the series during the second half of season three. The characters from the land of Oz will be the new focus for the rest of the season now that Peter Pan was been dealt with.
The upcoming twelfth episode, "New York City Serenade," will introduce the new evil villain The Wicked Witch of the West (played by actress Rachel Mader). The series will be taking a new spin on the character, much like it has done with other fairytale characters. Casting is currently underway for Glinda, who is described as "warm, benevolent, wise and shrewd" and may not be exactly like the character from the original story.
Glinda is the Good Witch of the North who watches over the people of Munchkin Land. She is a powerful sorceress who has been portrayed in film by actresses Billie Burke, Olive Cox, Hilary Lee Gaess, Sheryl Lee, and Michelle Williams. The character has also appeared in the award-winning Broadway show "Wicked" and "The Wiz," and will have a role in the upcoming 3D animated film "Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return."
Glinda is one of the most pivotal characters in the Land of Oz, as she is the one who enables Dorothy to enter Oz and fulfill her destiny. It's unclear how many episodes Glinda will appear in, although the Wicked Witch of the West will be around for at least the rest of season three. The opposite of her sister, Glinda is always there to help with optimism and positivity and fights for the power of good over evil. It's possible Glinda will also have entanglements with the Evil Queen.
