Earlier this week, it was announced that ABC had renewed “Once Upon a Time for a fourth season. On May 9, TV Series Finale confirmed the renewal in spite of the show having ratings 20% lower than last year. Still, the show is one of ABC’s top 5 dramas.
The promo for the season 3 finale asks the question, ‘where will we go next?’ The show has often taken us to the Fairy Tale Land that was and a more modern version of it under a curse cast by Peter Pan. It has spent a great deal of time in the fictional town of Storybrooke, Maine. We have visited Neverland and Oz this season. So what’s left? Latin Times attempted to answer that question as it pertains to season 4.
During Paleyfest 2014, showrunners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz talked about being big fans of Frozen” and would love to feature some aspect of it on the show. “We would be completely honored if Kristen Bell or Idina Menzel wanted to do our show,” they said. When Kristen Bell heard that the showrunners might want her, she said “That would be unbelievable,” she said. “I love that character of Anna so much. She is exactly who I wanted to see when I was five years old. She is really close to my heart.” Perhaps we will visit Arandelle sometimes in season 4.
Following the cancellation of the series spin-off, “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland,” news that Michael Socha, who played Will Scarlett/The Knave of Hearts, would make the leap to “Once Upon a Time” surfaced. Could this be a lead-in for us to visit Agrabah and finally meet Aladdin and the Jasmine?
We also have Dr. Whale, aka Dr. Frankenstein on the show from time to time. This could lend itself to a Transylvania storyline. Could there be a visit from Dracula in the not too distant future?
Another member of the series, Sir Lancelot, has had a brief role in the show. The gallant knight hales from Camelot, another epic and spellbinding kingdom. Even the lady of the lake has been introduced to some extent. How the writers would handle the Arthurian legends would be epic! Imagine meeting Merlin, seeing the Sword in the Stone and Lady Guinevere!
Ginnifer Goodwin who plays Mary Margaret/Snow White recently gave us a clue. The name of the new Charming baby will give it away.
“Yes, the baby’s name is going to be significant, absolutely significant,” Goodwin said. “In fact, every time I not only read the script but then every time we filmed it, I got very genuinely emotional. It was an excellent move -- and very unexpected.”
The season 3 finale of “Once Upon a Time” airs Sunday, May 11 in a 2-hour, 2-segment finale titled “Snow Drifts” and “No Place Like Home.” Tune in to see how the season ends and where we are going next!
