This week’s “Once Upon a Time” episode, “Nasty Habits,” reunited father and son Rumple and Baelfire (now Neil) and father and son Neil and Henry on Never Land. The joy of the reunions are short lived as Rumple fights against his demons knowing that Henry will be his undoing and trying desperately to get Neil to trust him.
The episode gave us further insight into Rumple’s backstory when it is revealed that The Dark One and Pan grew up together and that Neil (as Young Bae) was once a Lost Boy himself as Pan recruited him to the group as a way to pay back Rumple. As Neil and Rumple work together to save Henry, things seem to be going fine, until Pan revealed that he’s continues to control everything including Neil’s escape from Never Land as a boy and also his return to rescue Henry now.
Things look bleak for the men as Henry seems to no longer believe his family is coming to rescue him. He hears Neil in his sleep, only to wake up and think it was a dream or even worse a memory of his father who is dead. As Pan plays the piped music, Henry hears it for the first time as Pan has everyone right where he wants them. Neil, no longer trusting Rumple, ditches him to save Henry all alone, only to be captured again by Pan and the Boys and taken away.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the island, Tinker bell will help Emma and crew get close enough to Pan to rescue Henry but only if they can assure her that they have escape plan. Realizing she’s right, Hook takes them to Neil’s cave where he once lived to look for clues on how to leave the island, believing that he left some clue as to how he did it.
Finding a navigational map that Neil learned to make from Hook, Emma senses that there is no hope of escaping because Neil, the only one you could read the map, is dead. Snow and Charming try to comfort her to no avail – Neil is gone and she will never tell him how she feels about him. Alone, Snow and Charming talk about Emma’s pain and Snow says that she wouldn’t be able to survive if anything happened to her love. Charming, thinking of the poison wound he received, tells her that she must move on and be happy.
Hook tries to persuade the Prince to tell his family of his illness, but he continues to insist that they not know. With Henry now under Pan’s spell will the two rescue teams find him again in time to save him? And what has Pan done with Neil? Will Rumple and his son make up? Will Emma find out that Neil is alive only for Pan to end his life for good this time?
