Season 3 of “Once Upon a Time” has taken us from Storybrooke to Neverland to Oz and back again. As the season heads into its 2-hour finale set to air next week, promos and sneak peeks are flittering out. In the promo shared by Wetpaint on May 4, it looks as if the finale may have us heading for yet somewhere else.
The finale, which is actually 2 episodes, aired back to back, Season 3, Episode 21 (“Snow Drifts”) and Season 3, Episode 22 (“There’s No Place Like Home”), has flashbacks, dynamic showdowns and at least one portal — but where it leads is the real question.
The promo doesn’t give us much to work with in terms of what’s coming. There are clips of scenes from throughout the season as the announcer reminds us that we’ve been to Neverland, New York, Oz and Storybrooke. Once clip is of Hook and Emma in period dress. Another is of Snow White captured in a net by Prince Charming. Even Regina decked out as the Evil Queen makes an appearance in the sequence. Wetpaint even posits that since a wolf is shown, perhaps we will see Red Riding Hood (Meghan Ory) again.
Things get interesting at the end of the promo, however. It appears a portal has been opened up by the green magic that was released from Zelena’s pendant when Rumplestiltskin killed the witch at the end of the last episode. IN the scene, Emma is dangling over it. Someone else is in the shot but it isn’t clear who it is. Then, Emma falls through the portal.
Emma could be traveling to one of the worlds we’ve already visited. It isn’t likely she’ll be returning to Neverland as that storyline seems resolved. Without knowing if the witch is really dead – since her magic is still active – it’s not impossible that Emma is going to Oz. She could be traveling to some new world us ‘Oncers’ have yet to explore. The promo does say we will find out where we are going next and the tone seems to suggest it is someplace new. Next week, “Once Upon a Time” will air a 2 back-to-back episodes, 3x21 and #x22 titled “Snow Drifts” and “There’s No Place Like Home” respectively.
