Episode 12 of “Once Upon A Time” forced Gold to face his worst fears where Belle is concerned. “In the Name of the Brother” aired Sunday Jan. 20 at 7 p.m.
At the end of episode 11, Belle was shot by Hook just as a stranger drove into Storybrooke. Mr. Gold retaliated by using magic and leaving Hook in the path of the approaching car. The worst of the ordeal for Gold was that Belle was forced over the town line and lost her memory of she is and who Gold is as well.
When Emma arrives, Gold is in a rage and kicks the downed and battered Hook in his recently vehicular-ly broken ribs. The ambulance takes the stranger and Belle is seen arriving at the hospital with Mary Margaret. Gold wants to be with Belle but after his treatment of Hook, Emma is afraid to have him around for fear he will kill his foe in retaliation for Belle.
He manages to get into Belle’s room and finds her asleep. Perhaps hoping that love’s kiss will restore her memory, he leans over and plants one on her. She wakens first with a demure smile but as her eyes flutter open and she sees the man before her, she screams in terror. Gold flees the room.
Trying a different tact, Gold returns later to show Belle the chipped tea cup, hoping the sentimentality of it will jog her memory. She looks at it but means nothing to her. He tells her that she dropped it in his castle and it’s her talisman. He presses on and on trying to make her remember and becoming more crazed with every second that she doesn’t remember him. Belle tells him to go away but he persists. Finally, in desperation, she takes the tiny tea cup and flings it across the room. It shatters into a million pieces and with it, Gold’s hopes. He leaves the shattered pieces on the floor.
The next morning, Gold shows up at Emma’s apartment and says he wants the favor she owes him. He explains that they are leaving today to go find his son. It has to be today, he continues because every moment longer that he remains in Storybrooke is another moment in which he might kill Hook. He tells Emma to be ready at noon and warns the others that if any harm comes to Belle while they are gone, he will kill all of them.
With nothing left to lose, Gold has become a dangerous man. Do you think Belle will get her memory back? Will Gold and Emma find Gold’s son. Tune in to “Once Upon A Time” next week to find out.
