It won’t be much longer before “Once Upon A Time” fans will be able to meet the man who caused all the problems for The Dark One/Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold. Yes, his father is set to make an appearance and according to the Rickey on Oct. 21, the role has been cast.
From previous episodes, we’ve learned that Rumple’s father was known as a coward and that the family name was a curse to him. Rumple was also abandoned as a boy. These facts combined to create the complex character of Rumplestiltskin with all his insecurities and pathos. British actor Stephen Lord will bring Rumple’s father to the screen. Lord, known for his work on “EastEnders” and “Shameless” is set to appear through a flashback sequence in the episode airing Nov. 17.
According to show runner Edward Kitsis, we will learn a great deal about the man who had such a devastating effect on Rumple. Of Rumple, Kitsis says:
"We've hinted in the past that his father was a coward and that his father's name was something that haunted him and that his father left him. This is a man who wants to break the cycle of his past. He wants to be a good father, but it's like that quote, 'I can resist everything but temptation,' so that's also his weakness."
