“Once Upon a Time” season 3, episode 20, “Kansas” will introduce Dorothy Gale of Oz fame into the mix in Fairy Tale Land. As Mary Margaret prepares to give birth, Zelena will stop at nothing to get to the baby as this promo, shared on K Site TV on April 27 shows.
When episode 19 ended, Mary Margaret has just begun feeling contractions and the birth of the second Charming baby was imminent. From the promo, it is obvious that things have progressed. She and David are in the hospital, with a masked Dr. Whale attending to them. A strange sound is heard and David asks, “What the hell was that?” Whale tells him there isn’t time to worry about it because the baby is coming.
Flash to a scene of Zelena accompanied by Rumple as they enter the hospital. With a wave of her hand, hospital staff begins falling to the floor unconscious. She enters Mary Margaret’s room. David pulls his sword but another wave of her hand freezes him and Mary Margaret.
The voice over announcer says, “No one can stand in this witch’s way. Well, maybe one person.”
Next we see Glinda coming out of the darkness. She appears to be standing next to a house. A young girl of 11 or 12 climbs out of the house ad introduces herself to Glinda and Zelena, who appears out of nowhere, as “Dorothy. Dorothy Gale.”
Cut to a scene of Robin, Regina, David, Emma and Hook, all brandishing weapons as they cross a snow-covered field. It looks as though the group has forgiven Hook or at least agreed to set aside their differences for now since he appears to be fighting with them. They are in modern clothes and a town can be seen in the background so it is probably Storybrooke. Hook then appears to fall to the ground, eyes closed as Emma tries to help him.
The last clip is very telling. Dorothy says, apparently to Zelena, “I don’t want to hurt you.”
Zelena replies, “I’m going to make sure you can’t.” She lobs a fireball toward Dorothy. The girl pitches a pail of water toward the witch. The last shot is one of the witch shrieking as her face appears to melt off!
The scenes with Dorothy all appear to take place in Fairy Tale Land which would imply they happened in the past. It will be interesting to see how this ties into the current world and the snatching of the Charmings’ baby.
“Once Upon a Time” will give us some of those answers next week when episode 3x20, “Kansas” airs on Sunday, May 4.
