The flashback of the episode does not happen in the year that no one can remember. Instead, we get to see Zelena’s backstory, and how she changed into the wicked witch that she is today. What is surprising is that she turned wicked only once she realized that Regina had everything that Zelena wanted. It is envy that made her green and wicked. Her change seems to happen rather quickly. Once she sees a glimpse of Regina’s life, she wants it. While it is nice to confine Zelena’s change to one episode, it would have been better to expand on things. Viewers have to accept that Zelena changes from someone who wants to know her family to someone who drives to kill her sister in what is a very short period of time. On top of that, we also have to buy that Zelena loves Rumple. It is all a little much. What did you think of Zelena’s backstory?

Thankfully, the people of Storybrooke get some answers in this episode. Zelena informs Regina of the sister connection, and she makes a bold move to take Regina’s heart. This gets everyone thinking on what Zelena could want. Personally, I wonder if everyone knew of Zelena’s plan back during the previous year, or if for the most part, Zelena left them alone after she left Regina’s castle. What Zelena seems to want is to go back in time, and redo her life so that Cora never abandoned her. It’s an interesting plan. Zelena doesn’t want power or anything now, she wants her past to be better. There are a lot of questions regarding how this will actually play out. Will Zelena alter her past, but then jump ahead back to the present or will she want to relive her life over again? What are your thoughts on Zelena’s master plan?

Here are some thoughts on elsewhere in the episode. Hook and Henry bond! It’s a beautiful, beautiful thing. These two characters hardly ever spend one on one time together. Not only does this storyline showcase a softer side of Hook, but it shows that Henry is starting to figure out that the more people tell him, the more that things aren’t adding up. Hopefully the writers will have Henry starting to ask more questions and demand answers soon. He is sort of off on the sidelines being clueless, and it would be great to see him more involved like he typically is when he has his memories. Welcome to the Emerald City! Zelena’s flashback takes viewers to Oz, and you will never believe who the wizard is – Walsh! This definitely makes him more interesting. Sadly, right now it seems like a throwaway twist, meaning that we won’t get to delve into more into Walsh’s backstory soon. Still, it is a pretty fantastic twist. What did you think of the episode?
