Once Upon a Time

Once upon a time is a phrase most of us associate with our childhoods and the anticipation of reading or listening to a good story, many times with a happy ending. It can bring to mind a time in our lives when we were happy and carefree and every day was an amazing adventure. Things have changed quite a bit since we were children, and the world has become a lot more challenging for us and for our own children. We sometimes find ourselves longing for that “once upon a time” feeling when we felt safe and happy and loved. These days, even those of us who are optimists have been severely challenged, at times, to retain our hopeful attitudes.
Though the times, and the stories, have changed, there is still within each and every one of us a core of belief that somehow, somewhere, there is still a happy ending waiting for us. Each day that we wake up from sleep, we have that moment when, if for only a moment, life is good and there is an anticipation that today will be better. Just imagine how much better our days would be If we could find a way to hang on to that thought, that feeling, and live through that day, and every day, with that sweet anticipation of the possibility of good things to come!
Try an experiment. Begin each day by sitting quietly, just for a few moments, and imagining the best possible day for you. Try to carry those images with you throughout the day. Try to do this for at least a week. You may be pleasantly surprised by the result.
