The Peoples Improv Theater (The PIT) holds multiple improv, stand-up, one person shows and anything else that can be booked in a black box theater every night. Though every month there's a Sunday night that is hard to fill because of some national event (Super Bowl, Easter, Oscars) and that's where comedian Chris Grace comes to the rescue. On the first Sunday of every month Chris invites friends of his to perform stand-up on his show Cold Soda.
After years of New York City comedy Chris Grace knows tons of comedians from all different art forms in the genre. The show is often four performers headlined by someone who has appeared on a television series. Two others are often talented stand-ups firmly entrenched in New York's infamous comedy scene. The first performer however is always a friend of Grace's who performs comedy regularly, but has never done stand-up before. Watch as you see television writers and professional improvisers tell jokes for the first time on stage alone before a captive audience. Many of these brave souls perform regularly at The PIT so it is a comfortable environment for their first time trying stand-up comedy, free from hecklers and drink minimums.
Chris Grace is a comedian who successfully dabbles in everything from stand-up to improv to sketch. Currently he is a member of the PIT house team The Faculty and, with Nate Starkey, is apart the two-prov team Starkey & Grace. He's been able to use his talents on Comedy Central and PBS, but if you want to watch Chris at his element check him out at the PIT. He is always involved with a few shows during any given week and teaches a class on improv for the theater.
Since 1996 the Peoples Improv Theater, owned and operated by Ali Farahnakian, has taught hundreds of classes and hosted thousands of shows. The next Cold Soda is April 4th, 2010 at 8 PM. While there is only Cold Soda once a month at the PIT there is beer, wine and snacks available at every show.
