Bob Brown, pastor of Albuquerque's Christ Community Fellowship wrote the following:
Did you know that there are two kinds of faith that we can have and operate by?
Listen to Psalm 106:11-13
"And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left. Then believed they his words; they sang his praise, They soon forgot his works; they waited not for his counsel."
"Then believed they His words." The question is: When did they believe His words? They believed His words only after they saw... This is shallow faith.
This is a worldly faith, a faith that is hard to bless! It is faith that lacks any long lasting effects... note in v13 that it says that "they soon forgot His works".
All the way from Goshen to the Red Sea, Israel did not believe. Her faith was based on the physical, and their physical senses saw an angry Egyptian army behind them and a large body of water in front of them. There was not one physical evidence to believe!
Again, such faith is not faith at all, for "faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." (Heb. 11:1) Moses's faith, however, did not come out of the physical. He also saw the Egyptian army and the waters, but his faith was locked onto the invisible God and onto his promise of protection in the midst of despair and hopelessness.
Therefore, Moses could say, "Fear not, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will show to you today". (Exo. 14:13) The people's faith was earthly, and it took them to an untimely death. Moses's faith was heavenly, and it endured unto the end! May we each walk by the faith that is from above and not from this world. [ellipses in original]
