On Time - A Devotion

Luke 11:1-2 (NKJV)
Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” So He said to them, “When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

I am a time-challenged human being. Time seems so relative and it has taken me many years to relate to it in a positive way. I remember as a young person never being on time to the great frustration of my father. Once when I kept him waiting for a very long time, he imparted to me a golden nugget of advice. When we do not keep an appointment or arrive on time it tells the other person that we do not respect the value of their time much less the person. In other words, to set an arrival time and not keep it is inconsiderate and disrespectful. I had never considered being on time as a promise, but that is exactly what it is. For people like me watches are adornment as we find them suggestive. Every since my father gave me this nugget of wisdom, I have attempted to achieve some level of punctuality which admittedly has been a challenge. With all the best intentions, sometimes it is a lack of commitment or proper planning that hinders my arrival. Since the arrival of my children especially the girls, there are more people to get ready now adding hairstylist and fashionista to my overflowing parental resume. Some days there are just not enough hours to accomplish all that I have set my heart and mind to accomplish. It is then that I remember my Father in Heaven who has set my life in order. If I will simply pray and establish His Timeline for my life everything will “come to pass”. Truthfully while I think that I define the routine and schedule of my life, ultimately as a Child of God, my steps are ordered by the Lord. I must only try to keep up.

When the disciples asked Jesus how to pray, His Instructions were not complex. He did not rattle off a long list of religious banter to be repeated. First, we must acknowledge God. “Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be Your Name.” Hallowed means holy so what we are saying is that God is our Father and He is holy or sacred. We have established our connection with the Lord. Then we are to say, “Your Kingdom come, your Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” We have now synchronized our life with the Father. We have committed our life to His Timing and made an appointment with Him. In the crazy rat race of life, there is comfort and peace for those who learn this valuable tool in aligning our life with the Lord’s Will and Way as He has ordained it for our life. Although we are given freedom and life, the days of our life are predestined or ordered by God so that we can discover salvation (His Way) and live in righteousness (His Will). For all of you who struggle keeping appointments and making schedules due to an inability to arrive on time I release you from stressful days in the Name of Jesus Christ. Today let His Kingdom come and His Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.

Revelation 1:8 (NLT)
“I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end,” says the Lord God. “I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One.”

Life as a Christian must be viewed from God’s Perspective rather than humanity’s view. We are not in control of our destiny but maybe our fate. God has ordered the steps of your life to discover His Way and walk in His Will. His Word is a foundation of truth given to all of mankind in order to discover the Eternity that has been planted in their heart. (Ecclesiastes 3:11) God makes everything beautiful in His Time according to His Plan. He exchanges beauty for ashes for those who will work out their salvation in pursuit of Eternity. However, our mind’s eye view of life is limited outside of Jesus Christ who is the Alpha and Omega, Beginning and the End. Please do not be deceived. The Lord was with you when you were created by the Father’s Hand. He has witnessed every single day of your life and will be with you until the end. Faults and failures do not limit God’s Potential for your life if used to discover His Grace, Mercy and Love. God’s Timing is impeccable and no matter what you are facing will result in His Goodness coming at just the right time. It will come to pass because it was written and recorded from the very beginning. (Psalm 139:16-17) Do not let your inability to be punctual hinder you from receiving all that God has promised and will deliver in your life. We must be on time – God’s Time.

Luke 24:30-31 (NLT)
As they sat down to eat, he took the bread and blessed it. Then he broke it and gave it to them. Suddenly, their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And at that moment he disappeared!

Communion with God reveals His Timing and Position in the details of our life. When Jesus died on the Cross, His Disciples and Followers hid in fear for their lives. This was not how they expected things to be. The Lord was to rule and reign but He was tortured and killed. They questioned their faith and the man that they had known becoming so lost in their grief that when He came to them after the resurrection they did not even recognize Jesus. But as they sat with the Lord and had communion, their eyes were opened and they recognized Jesus in the midst of their isolation and fear. They were then able to go into the streets and boast of the Lord’s resurrection. When things do not turn out the way that we expect them to or the trial seems more than we can bear, communion with our Savior will reveal His Presence in the fire. Refinement is not pleasant but necessary in order for His People to have all that He has promised and receive all of their inheritance. It is easy to become encumbered by what we see and unable to trust in the unseen reality of God by faith with His Word and His Way revealing His Will. By faith, we can walk when nothing is clear and God’s Timing seems off following His Word knowing that He is the Alpha and Omega knowing the End from the Beginning working everything out for our good. (Romans 8:28)

Revelations 21:5-7 (NLT)
And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.” And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life. All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.

The Lord’s Timing is essential in making everything new in your life. People thrive on complacency and comfort choosing the gray area of life as a neutral zone not to offend the world or anger God. God hates the neutral zone. The Lord would rather you be hot or cold but will vomit those who choose to be lukewarm. (Revelation 3:16) As believers, we need our entire life and every moment that makes up our life to be renewed and to become victorious. Every situation that we find ourselves in is a godly opportunity. In every fight, there is the potential for victory. Not a single second is unnoticed or unutilized by the Lord, if you consider the numerous thoughts of God concerning His People even the number of hairs on their head it would seem that the Lord is consumed with our life. He is. His Purpose is that we would be found faithful and righteous when Jesus comes as a new creation! God wants us to know Him and accept as our God. He will bring His Kingdom to earth for those who willingly commit their life to be on time for God. He is on time for you making all things new!

Hosea 10:12 (NLT)
I said, ‘Plant the good seeds of righteousness, and you will harvest a crop of love. Plow up the hard ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek the LORD, that he may come and shower righteousness upon you.’

Now is the time to seek the Lord! No really – it is time to stop scheduling, ordering and controlling your life segmenting your faith for Sunday and Wednesday and living for the world every other day. God has planted Eternity in your heart. Heaven holds every blessing and promise God has for you. It is yours for the taking. As we plant seeds of righteousness by faith choosing to seek the Lord, live His Way, do His Will and know His Word, our hearts become broken open. In this way, Eternity is released as we embrace God’s Timing by committing to righteousness first. God will come and make you righteous enabling you to see all the many things He has for you and where they are coming from as you wait for His Very Best knowing by faith it is coming. We begin to live by appointment only seeking to encounter God every step of the way and living in His Promises for life. This is how we bring Kingdom to earth by preparing a place for His Glory to shine in the garden of our heart. The Lord has planted Eternity there. What are you doing to cultivate it?

Galatians 6:8-9 (NLT)
Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.

Spiritual abortion is the harvesting of fruit before its time. When we attempt to rush God or make things happen, it is like picking an apple before it is ripe. It is hard and bitter not at all what we expected. Or if a crop does not grow as expected so the farmer burns the field, he will never know what could have happened if he waited for the day of harvest. God has a wonderful plan for your life including a future and hope. (Jeremiah 29:11) Everything you need is provided along the way. (Philippians 4:19) Every single detail of your life is being worked for good. (Romans 8:28) But when we become too impatient to wait on the Lord we perform spiritual abortion and kill it before it comes. Maybe you are wondering how this could possibly happen? Righteousness is born of faith. Faith has the power to give life to your blessing and promises activating them in your life. Fear, doubt, negativity, complaining and grumbling halt God’s Timing in our life until we realign with the Lord through repentance. Have you been killing the harvest in your life and blaming God for imperfect timing? Even the demons are aware that God is in control of time. (Matthew 8:28-29) Why can’t Children of God recognize and remain faithful as God works out the details of our life to perfection and for His Glory but rather run around telling everyone what a bad job the Lord is doing? If you are a believer who constantly complains about your life then you are telling the world that God is a bad father who does not care for His Children. It’s true. What is your opinion of your Father today?

Ephesians 1:9-11 (NLT)
God has now revealed to us his mysterious plan regarding Christ, a plan to fulfill his own good pleasure. And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth. Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.

God is always on time. It is up to us to remain on time with the Lord. Synchronizing our life with Jesus, God will reveal His Mysterious Plan as we live in communion with Him. Jesus made it possible for us to fall in step with the Father once more. It is called righteousness. The Lord is bringing all the details together as He prepares for His Return. (Revelation 22:12-14) Are you ready for Jesus to come back? Being an on time believer requires living for that day every day. When you do, it allows His Kingdom to come to earth. We are united with Christ and the inheritance of God is ours. He decided it would be this way before we were created and orchestrated every event in our life for His Glory so we could discover the yearning for Eternity in our hearts. God loves you. Everything is going according to His Plan…are you?

I Peter 5:6-7 (NLT)
So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
