The second taping of Dr. Georgina Rose's "On The Spot with Dr. G" was full of sex talk and candid questions from the live audience at Preserve 24 (177 E. Houston St.). A physician-turned-talk show host, Dr. G is also author of Are You Ready For The One? A Career Woman's Guide to Finding Your Man, and a columnist for Fuzion Magazine. Her first guest of the night was Karen Gravano: New York Times best-selling author of Mob Daughter, and founding castmember of VH1's "Mob Wives." Karen openly discussed her relationship with her mother, her daughter's father, and her own notorious dad, Sammy 'The Bull' Gravano. She also shared how her parents' supportive parenting style influenced the way she raises her own daughter. Karen's beau and business partner, Storm, was in the audience as she also talked about their relationship and healthy sex life. She credits their "real" friendship as the key to their successful romance. Karen didn't shy away from any of Dr. G's intimate questions.
Dr. Matthew Lorber is a New York neuropsychiatrist, and also sat in the G-Spot chair. He discussed the pituitary gland's role in sex hormone secretion, and de-bunked some aphrodisiac myths. Apparently oysters and dark chocolate don't do much for our libido, but watermelon, Viagra, and/or 10-15 minutes of G-Spot stimulation help a lot. Dr. Lorber also explained how our culture's views of sex and sexually active women negatively affect couple's relationships and the female's ability to achieve orgasm, and increases her reluctance to learn and express what pleases her. This provoked several nods in the audience.
Dr. Judith Steinhart was the final panelist. She is a health and sexuality consultant who has taught at NYU, Indiana University, and many other colleges. After an audience member inquired about sex over the age of 60, Dr. Steinhart talked about the importance of lubrication, and some causes and remedies for dryness. Dr. Steinhart also informed us that booty calls are nothing new, and neither is the concept of "friends with benefits." She asserts that if you only want those types of sexual interactions, that's fine. However, it is important that you communicate that with your partner, and that you two want the same thing. Throughout the entire evening, the importance of communication was repeated.
Dr. G was on-hand after the taping to sign copies of her book, which is available for purchase on Amazon. Some notables at the sexy event were actor Keith Collins, international reggae star Junior Reid, Playboy model and author Tanyka Renee, celebrity publicist Marie Theodore, and of course, Dr. G's celebrity media manager and publicist, Sibrena Stowe de Fernandez of LaChic Media.
