A beautiful backdrop image of the Doge’s Palace located in Venice, Italy prepared fashion guests to be taken on a venetian dreamscape at the Tadashi Shoji’s Spring 2015 collection presented at Mercedes-Benz Fashion week at Lincoln Center on Sept. 4, 2014. The Japanese designer created a collection that was inspired by his recent trip to Venice, Italy. It was evident when forming this collection he gathered his inspiration from the historical landmarks, architectural details, and vibrant color palettes from the Italian city. The color of the dresses were a range of soft pastel shades of blue, white, peach, to luxurious golds and blacks. Tadashi Shoji is the master of creating glamorous, elegant, and feminine dresses.
His attention to detail for each of his ensembles and the way he create effortless silhouettes sets him apart for any other designer. Guests attending the show were in awe of the models walking down the runway wearing sheer long-sleeved lace gowns, applique cape dresses, gothic-inspired print midi dresses with bateau necklines, and box cut tops with accordion pleated skirts. The showstoppers of the collection were the gold and white cape floor length dresses adorned with applique that was decorated as lavishly as the walls inside the Ca' d'Oro palace located on the Grand Canal in Venice.
The models were made to look like a Venetian princesses with their hair in a braided chignon, gold dangling earrings and makeup that made their skin look soft and glowing with a pop of coral lipstick. Rodney Cutler for ULTA Beauty did the hair. Pep Gay did the makeup for MAC Cosmetics. The audience was overwhelmed by the music choices that included a mixture of beautiful piano melodies and the upbeat song “Stay Awake” by London Grammar. It’s clear that Tadashi Shoji is meant to be a part of the fashion industry and fashion lovers can’t wait until his next trip overseas to see what inspires him next, but until then Arrivederci!
