For Spring 2014, Korean-born designer, Son Jung Wan, wants to take us “’Away’…from daily life and yourself”. Inspired by Morocco and the romantic, picturesque sun-drenched Sahara Desert her collection of mens and womenswear ranged from edgy to flowing with soft pales, bold yellows and rich metallics. The show opened with an off-white jumpsuit with slit side cutouts, hem-less asymmetrical dresses and color blocks of off-white and dove gray. The models had nude makeup and tightly pulled back hair with large teased ponytails.
After a splash of sparkle with a light gray hand-beaded dress with structured top and flowing asymmetrical hem, the collection brightened with citron tops of silk and sheer knit and lemon dresses from tailored and structured to loose and flowing. Sunset reminiscent hues of pink and peach were shown in a strapless multicolored silk jumpsuit and a men’s multicolored dyed shirt with metal side details and white sheen shorts.
Wan’s attention to detail was shown in a nude silk dress with a ribbon of pattern detail that curved across the front and back and a sheer side cutout. Moroccan inspired prints appeared on loose fitting pants and one-sleeved dresses. The show concluded with coral sequin mini-dress with slit back and an open lattice weave leather trim, a structured and feminine gold short-sleeved jacket with gold sequined skirt and a gold sequin dress with a deep front and back V-neck and asymmetrical hem.
For the look Jorge Luis, head stylist for Prive Salon, prepped hair with Prive Foaming Styler and pulled hair into a low pony. He then used a crimper and Prive Finishing Texture Spray to add volume and texture. To finish the look, he backbrushed the ponytail with a Mason Pearson.
