On April 16, Ford Motor Company celebrated the 50 year anniversary of their iconic Mustang car by collaborating with top designers from around the world. Acclaimed fashion designers Anna Sui, Rogan Gregory and Scott Mackinlay-Hahn and Paula Cademartori, Tomaso Anfossi and Francesco Ferrari of CO|TE and Pamela Love have teamed up to create a limited edition t-shirt line.
The collection will feature 15 t-shirts and 3 from each design brand. The company held a panel to discuss how each designer's vision parallel's Ford's ideals and design aesthetic. Anna Sui, who grew up around Ford's headquarters in Detroit, noted that the Mustang has adapted over its 50 years to cultural changes, but has remained true to its core values of freedom and passion, much like her. She is constantly inspired by the changing times and culture but still staying true to herself. Much like the Mustang that has evolved to a utilitarianism role with modernism, Rogan does the same.
Paula Cademartori focuses on the details in design while using bright colors, which are very similar concepts in the iconic car as well. CO|TE finds the attention to detail paramount, which is evident in the construction of the Mustang as well. Pamela Love is passionate about the stories that she conveys through her jewelry pieces, which are parallel to the car's rich history of stories of those who drive them. The reception was held in the Empire State Building, and guests were invited to sight-see on the observation deck. Refreshments and hors d'oeuvres were provided as well as a full buffet later on.
