On Wednesday evening, into the early hours of Thursday Oct. 24, Examiner.com was on the scene for one of our favorite art parties. The Whitney Museum of American Art hosted its 2013 Gala and Studio Party, supported by Louis Vuitton at Skylight at Moynihan Station.
We arrived as Lake Bell and her husband, who are big Whitney supporters, walked the red carpet. Then we slipped into the main dining hall, where music legend David Byrne, of Talking Heads fame, performed three songs including “Road to Nowhere.” He strummed his guitar and gave St. Vincent a shout out.
We spotted actress Michelle Williams, Harvey Weinstein and Padma Lakshmi amongst distinguished attendees. Actress Zoe Kravitz, was having a girls night as she was joined by her two really good friends Riley Keough and Alia Shawkat. They all mingled with guests and were in high spirits.
Another twist on the party this year is live art was happening. Nude models posed around vintage Louis Vuitton trunks at the center of the room and artists were able to sketch them on large easels. DJ Brendan Fallis provided the tunes for the evening.
Guests who were dressed in Louis Vuitton included Michelle Williams, Riley Keough, Elisabeth von Thurn und Taxis, Dianna Agron, Sofia Coppola, Alexa Chung, Lake Bell and Scott Campell, Hannah Bronfman, Chiara Clemente, Zoe Kravitz, Lily Kwong, Harley Viera Newton, Julia Restoin Roitfeld, Sofia Sanchez Barrenechea and Lauren Santo Domingo, to name a few.
Other notables that we spotted included Mickey Sumner, Ben Watts, Thomas Mars, Salman Rushdie, Lola Schnabel, Vito Schnabel, Fred Wilson and Dustin Yellin. Gala guests enjoyed wine and spirits by Moet and Chandon and Belvedere.
