Texas-born designer Lela Rose is known for her breathtaking ultra-feminine style she did not disappoint her fans with her Spring 2014 collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Her inspiration for her Spring line came from Danish industrial designer Arne Jacobsen and mid-century modern furniture with its curvilinear shapes and quirky geometry. She used the clean sculptural forms that exemplify the mid-century and transcend time with continued relevance in present design.
The show opened with the peppy “Paint a Smile on Me” by Black Yaya with models with gold fleck covered tousled buns by Ted Gibson and chartreuse shadowed eyes and nude lips By Romy Soleimani with Stila. The opening looks were crisp, pencil shapes with light reflected blue, vivid pink and citrine accented by crisp white to tie together the numerous layers of color and texture.
Jackets were stacked tweed and linen piped which was reflected in dresses with undulating lines inspired by the Egg and Swan Chairs, two of the most iconic pieces of the 20th Century.
White sheer tweed gave a spring air to the normally heavier fabric and was paired with speckled jacquard. The double face cotton mackintosh trench was trimmed with cut lace making it the perfect topper for much of the line particularly the black cut lace over white sheath.
Rose’s use of lace to fill the negative space in many of the party dresses an ivory stretch sateen sheath with wood grain lace inserts, the pale pink lace trimmed halter dress and the stunning white line drawn silk dress with black circle embroidery.
The shoes, a collaboration between Jean-Michel Cazabat for Lela Rose, were bold colored pointed toe stilettos and strappy heeled sandals.
The music for the show by Laurent Vacher for Labtonis transitioned to “The Jerk” by Electric Guest and “East Coast Girl” by Cayucas built to the breathtaking final pieces of the 39-look show which had everyone snapping shots. The final three were gowns; a flowing citrine silk gazar gown with a sculptural and curve bodice, a watercolor silk chiffon gown in citrine and brown on a canvas of white and stunning formfitting ivory gown with flowing skirt and wood grain inserts.
On the front row, wearing Fall 2013 Lela Rosa was Brittany Snow in a Pearly-Embroidered Sweater & Woodcut-Print Jacquard Pants and Katie Cassidy wearing a Ribbon-Embroidered Halter Dress.
