Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014 saw its biggest star sighting on Saturday in the form of one Nicki Minaj sitting front row at Hervé Léger By Max Azria. The singer snapped selflies as the models marched down the runway and tweeted a video with the caption "#FashionWeek #HerveLeger hottttttt."
Other front row attendees of the always high profile runway spectacular included Giuliana Rancic, Petra Nemcova, Katie Cassidy, June Ambrose, Meghan Markle, Cara Santana, and Lauriana Mae.
Hervé Léger has come a long way from its signature bodycon bandage dress, which catapulted the brand into a sexy red carpet staple.
But this season's collection was mature yet still sensual with a focus on even the smallest of details. Chief Creative Officer (and Azria's wife) Lubov Azria said the designs took influence from the past. “Different cultural and geological references inspire the collection as seen in ancient tribes and tradition," she said.
The show started with several looks that incorporated intricate gold zipper detailing in even the most unexpected of places (as darting for a top, for instance). Slickbacked wet hair, an emphasis on leather and voluminous silhouettes that hugged the body all added to a look that was tough yet still feminine. One dress blended everything and featured a leather bodice, with zippers leading down and opening up to reveal a flouncey skirt, all in Azria's famous body con dress material.
About halfway through the looks shifted to geometric designs and finally to symmetrical prints, subdued colors and fringe, all of which fit well with the "ancient tribes" inspiration Lubov Azria described.
Standout looks included a black leather jacket with gold zipper detailing and a peplum on one side, a blue and grey geometric dress with fringe paneling, and a black and cream colored a-line dress with black leather bodice. The collection also featured several swimsuits.
Later in the evening, the champagne was flowing at the after party for the BCBGMAXAZRIA Runway and Hervé Léger Fall 2013 Runway shows. The celebration was at the exclusive Boom Boom Room at the Top of the Standard Hotel in NYC’s Meatpacking District.
Guests enjoyed passed hors d’oeuvres including truffle grilled cheese sandwiches, mini falafel cakes, and sliders. The party also featured a special Spring 2014 Runway drink menu with cocktails inspired by New York Fashion Week such as the Twill Chill, Unzipped, and Runway Survivor.
DJ Kiss kept the crowd dancing with a mix of old school Hip Hop and Top 20 hits while giant flat screens replayed the runway shows in the background. Half way through the night, the voice of guest performer Lauriana Mae (featured on Cee Lo Green’s track “Only You”) made heads turn as she belted out “Money Mae” from her latest EP Love Mae.
Guests included Max Azria, Lubov Azria, Jesse Metcalfe, Cara Santana and Meghan Markle.
