First Time Fest invited Examiner.com to its Kick-Off Event at Neue House the new headquarter for next year’s festival on September 30, 2013. After a highly successful first run past March with the presence of Martin Scorsese, Todd Solondz, Philip Seymour Hoffmann to name a few, Fest Co – Founders Johanna Bennett and Mandy Ward have announced the second edition of this unique festival set for April next year.
Although young and blooming First Time Fest has already made a mark in the demanding New York film festival circuit. Celebrating first-time feature films the festivals mission is not only to discover new talents, but also to provide exposure for the next generation of filmmakers. As a partner of Cinema Libre Studio the lucky finalists will receive the opportunity to gain both international representation and a theatrical release.
Among other things the festival offers auspicious industry panels, workshops, parties and selected film presentations. Last year's First Exposure series a non-competitive parallel section devoted to first films by renowned filmmakers featured the work of Sofia Coppola, Hal Hartley, Nancy Savoca and Barbara Kopple who where present after the screening to talk about their experience as first time filmmakers. Although FTF producer Mitch Levine could not disclose any names yet we can only expect next year's selection to be even more ambitious.
This week FTF is launching its own Kickstarter to raise funds for Year Two. Some interesting perks up for grabs include film memorabilia from movies like "Being John Malkovich," "Reservoir Dogs," a special edition Fender Guitar signed by Nile Rodgers a voice message from Tony Bennett!
